I've wasted so much of my life watching crappy movies. Either I have felt a compelled need to watch someone's recognition, or feel the need to watch as many movies as possible before the end of the year, but this year I have decided to skip those movies that just look terrible or don't interest me at all.
For instance, this year I didn't watch Jack and Jill starring Adam Sandler. Looks terrible. I have no desire to watch it and won't. It's nothing against Adam Sandler. I like many of his movies including 50 First Dates, Click and Just Go With It, but for the most part his movies are just plain stupid.
Same with Will Ferrell. The dude has never made a movie that I liked. None, zip, zero and yet I keep giving the guy a chance and I'm not sure why I keep going back. I will not watch a Will Ferrell movie ever again!
So, this year I will be skipping all those movies that will be a waste of my time. This includes those movies that are topping critics lists. Tree of Life shouldn't have been seen last year. I've never liked a Terrence Malick movies and this one just looked odd and I hated it. I don't get it and yet I keep seeing top named actors joining his films and why I am even intrigued in seeing more of his films means I am a glutton for punishment.
There shouldn't be worst movies of the year lists because they should be skipped. There are films that are disappointing, but these are movies that had me excited about seeing them and then didn't live up to the hype. But movies that just plain stink are movies I knew going into that I wouldn't enjoy.
I know film tastes are subjective, but there are those films I JUST KNEW going into that I wouldn't like. I don't want Bridesmaids, The Smurfs, Mr. Poppers Penguins, Gnomeo and Juliet, Mars Needs Moms, Bad Teacher, Horrible Bosses, and Moneyball.
These movies weren't on my list to see. I had no interest, yet here they are on my list of watched movies last year and they were just as bad as I thought they would be.
Examples of movies that let me down last year were Season of the Witch, I Am Number Four, Battle: Los Angeles, Sucker Punch, Paul, Cars 2, Cowboys and Aliens, Conan the Barbarian, Colombiana, Real Steel, and In Time.
These movies were on my list to see and I was excited to see them, yet they let me down. That's to be expected.
And there were always a few surprised each year, where I wanted to see a film, but didn't expect to like it as much as I did.
So, here is a list of movies that I will not see! If you see them on my review lists or talk about them on the podcast, please punch me in the throat!
Joyful Noise- No thanks. Not a fan of singing movies, especially with this cast.
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island - So many good actors, so much cheese oozing from it.
21 Jump Street- Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill...not very good actors.
Jeff Who Lives at Home- No interest at all.
Casa de mi Padre- Will Ferrell. Enough said.
The Three Stooges- Seriously. Just watch the original shows.
Scary Movie 5- Enough already. A complete waste of money!
The Dictator- Trailer looks funny, but I know it is more of Cohen being ridiculous.
Magic Mike- Male strippers. No thanks.
Step Up 4- Haven't seen 1, 2 or 3...
Frankenweenie- Tim Burton is weird.
Paranormal Activity 4- Nothing new.
The Twilight Saga Part 2- I'll be glad when this torture is over.
I'm sure there are more that could be added to this list, but it's a start. I will only watch those that truly interest me, regardless if I hurt your feelings and reject your recommendation. It's life, move on!
Do yourself a favor! Only watch good movies...PLEASE!
None of the Will Ferrall movies? Not even "Stranger Than Fiction"? As a writer and a book lover, I thought you'd enjoy that one as much as I did...
ReplyDeleteNope. The guy annoys me beyond measure.
ReplyDeleteWell my original comment didn't stick!
ReplyDeleteI said that i thought it was funny that the pic you used was one from one of the most hated of all movie franchises I have seen. Seriously I think the world grew dumber because of the Home Alone movies.
The original is a favorite of mine but after that I have to agree with you!
